BOB MARSON VIRGINIA BEACH

A lifelong resident of Virginia Beach, Marson is a graduate of Princess Anne High. Marson played baseball in high school, and remembers a friend on the golf team - Curtis Strange. Two years behind Marson, Strange went on to become a star on the PGA Tour.

Age: 46.

Occupation: Virginia Beach police detective.

Handicap: 2.

Favorite course: Cypress Point - not for the condition of the course but for the friendly service of the staff and closeness of its members.

Lowest score: 66 Lake Wright Golf Course in 1990.

Clubs: Mizuno Driver, Taylor Made 3 Wood, Titleist DCI Irons, Ping B62 putter.

Shot I dread the most: All of them when I'm not playing well, but usually the long bunker shot.

My dream foursome: Curtis Strange, Davis Love III, Fuzzy Zoeller and me.

Biggest golf gripe: Sand baggers.

Most memorable shot: My hole-in-one in Southern Pines, N.C., at the Highlands Hills Golf Course.

Funniest thing I ever saw on the course: I was playing in the DuPont World Amateur Tournament in Myrtle Beach at the Eagles Nest Golf Course when my approach shot on a par 5 went over the green. When I got to my ball, I noticed that it came to rest against an 8-foot alligator. Having never seen an alligator, I thought it was there as decoration - until he moved his tail. I called for a rules official and had to replay my shot. I made par.
