TONIGHT'S TV PREMIERE: ``BETWEEN BROTHERS''
Network, time - Fox, 8:30 p.m. Thursdays.
Cast - Dondre Whitfield, Kelly Perine, Tommy Davidson, Kadeem Hardison.
Concept - Two brothers (the straight-up Hardison and the irresponsible Whitfield) share a Chicago pad visited often by college buds Davidson and Perine. Whitfied plays a real estate agent, Hardison a sportswriter, Davidson a twice-divorced teacher forever looking for a place to crash, and Perine a TV weather guy named Dusty Canyon.
Mini-review - The big laugh in this sitcom's pilot comes from the name of Perine's character. Too much ``see-what-I'm-sayin', you-the-man'' talk here with too few funny moments. Do we need another sitcom with women as mere sex objects? Episode No. 1 gets buried in a go-around about naming the next of kin. On a night when white America is watching ``Friends'' and ``Seinfeld,'' Fox programs for urban viewers with ``Living Single,'' ``413 Hope St.'' and ``Between Brothers,'' which replaces ``Martin.'' Think of ``Between Brothers'' as four black men behaving badly. In one scene, the brothers tell their friends, ``Take the noise outside.'' I wish.
