Hazel Anthony Hayes Sr., 72, of the 1000 block of Kittrell Street, died Sept. 7, 1997, in Lynnshore Manor.
He retired in 1986 from The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star after 17 years. He was the son of the late Fannie and Charles Hayes.
Survivors include two sons, Hazel A. Hayes Jr. and Charles F. Hayes; three daughters, Barbara Ann Burwell, Mary J. Hines and Jo E. Price; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and many survivors, cousins and other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at noon today in Hale Funeral Home Inc. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Hampton. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
