Lawrence Litton, 67, of the 800 block of Geneva Ave., died Sept. 9, 1997, in his home.
Born in Dryden, Va., he was retired as a sanitation technician after five years with the City of Chesapeake; he also retired as a wood craftsman after 14 years from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Previously he had retired as a Chief Steward after 30 years with the U.S. Navy. He was a faithful member of New Bethel Baptist Church, Portsmouth, a member of King Edward Lodge No. 1, and all Scottish Rites Bodies of Makkari Temple. Mr. Litton was a 32nd-degree Mason and grand treasurer of F. Linden Holmes Grand Council of Deliberation. He was a member of the Frog Hunting and Fishing Club.
Survivors include his daughter, Sharon Litton of Chesapeake; five sisters, Ruby Litton, Willie (Ronald) Roberts and Lucinda Perry, all of Dayton, Ohio, Clara Litton and Joyce (James) Colvin, all of Chicago; two brothers, James E. Litton of Chicago and Rev. William O. (Betty) Litton of Fair Oaks, Calif.; five stepchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in New Bethel Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by Bishop J.M. Whitaker. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery, Chesapeake, with military honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon Friday. The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.
