Marvin W. Wallace Sr., honorable husband, father, grandfather and friend, died Sept. 9, 1997.
Born Dec. 26, 1926, he was the former director of the Labor Participation Department of United Way, Norfolk, former president, Bakery Worker's Local 358, former president, Norfolk Central Labor Council, and former vice-president of Virginia State AFL-CIO. Mr. Wallace served on many boards and commissions throughout Hampton Roads. He also served as a Boy Scout leader and PTA volunteer, John Tyler Little League president, and president of Port Norfolk Civic League.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia L. Wallace; four daughters, Rose Marie Ferguson, Doris Townsley, Charlotte Pawid and Merrie Wallace, all of Portsmouth; three sons, Marvin Wayne Wallace Jr. and Richard Lee Wallace of Richmond and David Paul Wallace of Portsmouth; 15 grandchildren, Mary Wallace, Linda Wallace, Kim Szewezyk, Jennifer Wallace, David Wallace, Marvin Wallace III, Anthony Wallace, Charles Wallace, Tisha Laswell, Christopher Townsley, Brandon Madray, Lindsay Wallace, Brooke Shull, Alexis Pawid and Allisa Pawid; and two great-grandchildren, Emma Wallace and David Szewezyk.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Tom Potter. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Labor Participation Dept. of the United Way of South Hampton Roads, Norfolk. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
