A headline on Wednesday's front page said that the Virginia Beach

Community Services Board ``asked the city to pay $12 million for a

flawed hotel building after only a basic study of costs.'' However,

in addition to the hotel, the $12 million included the purchase of

two adjoining properties and the cost of renovation. Total cost for

facilities and land acquisition was $5.7 million for all three

properties.

A story Tuesday about a plan to extend a contract to golf pro

Curtis Strange had errors. The story incorrectly reported that

Portsmouth operates two courses in Suffolk. Portsmouth owns Sleepy

Hole and Suffolk Golf Course; Suffolk operates those courses. The

story also reported that a lease agreement with Suffolk expires next

year. The lease ends in 1999.

Rep. Owen B. Pickett, D-2nd, voted to continue funding and

operating the Army's School of the Americas at Fort Benning, Ga. A

Roll Call in Monday's Hampton Roads section erroneously stated that

he voted to close the Army school.
