The Planning Commission on Wednesday delayed a key decision on a proposed sewer line in Great Bridge after concerns arose about limiting the number of hookups and how much the line would affect growth.
The proposed Southeastern Interceptor was originally mapped to run in the city's rural and countryside districts, a position that made it incompatible with the city's Comprehensive Plan. The line is a key ingredient in allowing the controversial Edinburgh development in southern Chesapeake to start.
A month ago, the Hampton Roads Sanitation District moved the line into a suburban section of Great Bridge, a move thought to pave the way for Edinburgh to get offhand approval and begin bringing growth to an area of Chesapeake not scheduled to grow for about 20 years.
But during a pre-meeting among planning commissioners on Wednesday, City Planner Brent R. Nielson said concerns were raised. There were also questions about what effect the sewer line would have on growth, he said.
The matter was continued until the Planning Commission's Nov. 12 meeting.
