David E. Buckingham, Virginia Wesleyan College's vice president for student affairs and dean of students, has been promoted to special assistant to President William T. Greer Jr. Buckingham will continue his student affairs duties.
Buckingham will assist in areas such as marketing and planning, Greer said.
``I am quite serious when I say that David Buckingham's passion for marathon running made him a natural for this assignment,'' Greer said. ``His energy and stamina, coupled with a keen mind and deep love for Virginia Wesleyan, will all come together in an effective way for us.''
Buckingham, who lives in Chesapeake with his wife and two sons, joined the college in 1982 as dean of students. He was named Outstanding Professional in Virginia in 1990 by the Virginia Association of Student Personnel Administrators. RICHMOND
Two local businessmen were recently elected trustees of the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges. The foundation helps raise money for 15 private colleges in Virginia, including Virginia Wesleyan.
The new board members are Macon F. Brock, president and chief executive officer of Dollar Tree Stores Inc. in Norfolk, and A. Russell Kirk, vice chairman and chief executive officer of Armada/Hoffler Construction Co. in Chesapeake. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
