Pier fishing along the northern beaches slowed Thursday.
A few spot, croaker and puppy drum were taken on Kitty Hawk Pier.
Anglers on Avalon Pier caught some bluefish and Spanish mackerel from the pier's end during the morning, and a few spot and croaker in the afternoon.
Fishing was slow on Nags Head Pier, with only a few spot and bluefish landed.
A handful of small flounder and a few bluefish were taken from Jennette's Pier.
Scattered spot were landed on Outer Banks Pier.
On Hatteras Island, Rodanthe Pier reported good numbers of bluefish taken on cut bait during the morning. Fishing was slow later in the day.
Puppy drum weighing as much as 14 pounds, spot, bluefish and a few nice sea mullet were caught from Avon Pier.
Frisco Pier reported some keeper puppy drum, spot and croaker taken.
Surf fishermen hauled a few speckled trout from the surf north of Kitty Hawk Pier Thursday morning. Otherwise, a few scattered bottom fish and bluefish were landed along the beach from Corolla to Buxton.
Scattered blues and spot were landed at Cape Point. Some small puppy drum were released.
Puppy drum as large as 27 inches were taken by surfcasters from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet Thursday.
Blue water action was a bit slow off Oregon Inlet, with only a few dolphin, tuna and billfish taken. Only a few boats fished the Gulf Stream off Oregon Inlet, and there were no reports of offshore activity off Hatteras.
The water temperature was 75 degrees Thursday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 77 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
