VIRGINIA BEACH - Lamar King went five yards around the right end for a touchdown and quarterback Colin Mitchell ran in the two-point conversion as the Patriots won their Beach District opener.

The big play: Eric Miller made a diving interception at the Chiefs five-yard line with the Patriots trailing 10-9. First Colonial scored the winning touchdown four plays later.

Notable individual stats: FC: King 26-126 rushing, 2 TDs; Raymond Johnson 6-42 rushing. K: Michael Sanderson 9-34 rushing.

Quote: ``(Former Patriot and Penn State lineman) Brandon Noble is our defensive line coach now and he kept telling me the whole game that I was going to make a big play. Everything was in slow motion when that ball was in the air.'' - Miller.

Princess Anne 32, 2OT

VIRGINIA BEACH - Alan McLeod made his only official carry of the night count, scoring from three yards out in the game's second overtime for Green Run (2-0, 1-0) in a Beach District game. He then scored on the two-point conversion run. Princess Anne (0-2, 0-1) jumped out to a 19-7 lead before Green Run's Andre Jackson caught two touchdown passes in the last five minutes of the game - the second coming with 1:41 left - to send the game into overtime

The big play: Jackson's game-tying touchdown, a 46-yard completion from Charles Wilson. The Stallions could have won the game in regulation, but the conversion kick was blocked.

Notable individual stats: GR: Charles Wilson, 7-19, 212 yards, 2 TDs, Jackson 6-136 yards, 3 TDs. PA: Johnson, 112 yards rushing, 2 TDs.

Quote: ``I just told my line, `Just blow them off the line and I'll get there.' ''-McLeod to his offensive line just before his 2-point conversion attempt in the second overtime.

Kellam 7, No. 8 Ocean Lakes 6

VIRGINIA BEACH - The eighth-ranked Dolphins (1-1) played without starting quarterback Robert Amos, who is hospitalized with an undiagnosed virus, and Kellam (1-1) came up with key defensive plays to score the Beach District upset. Ocean Lakes scored first, on a 45-yard run by Jermaine Lauzon in the first quarter, but the Dolphins missed the conversion kick. Carlos McPherson scored on a 9-yard run to tie it and Zachary Blaine's extra point decided the issue. The big play: Johnathan Temple of Kellam forced a fumble by Lauzon and recovered it at the Ocean Lakes 46 late in the fourth quarter.

Notable individual stats: OL: Lauzon 20-113 rushing, 1 TD; K: McPherson 10-51 rushing, 1 TD.

CHESAPEAKE - The top-ranked Bruins rolled to three first-quarter touchdowns. Keith Burnell rushed for 97 yards (11 carries) and Marvin Urquhart added 55 rushing yards and two TDs.

The big play: The Bruins scored on their first three offensive series.

Notable individual stats: WB: Rashad Cook: 7-69, 1 TD. W: Mohonda Whitfield: 217 yards passing; Nathaniel Anthony 7-130 receiving.

CHESAPEAKE - Quarterback Kevin Jones, who sat out Norcom's first game with an ankle injury, fired a pair of touchdown passes and Taron Anderson scored three TDs as the Greyhounds rolled.

The big play: Jones entered the game at 2:12 of the second quarter and tossed a 13-yard touchdown pass to Anderson on his second play.

Notable individual stats: N: Jones 4-7-0 passing, 68 yards, 2 TDs; Anderson 17-118 rushing, 2 TDs, 1 TD reception; Charles Lowe 12-79 rushing, 1 TD; H: Reggie Gordan 14-106 rushing, 1 TD.

Denbigh 0

NORFOLK - Booker T. held Denbigh to minus 42 offensive yards and rushed for 185 yards to rout the Patriots in a non-conference game. Purnell Salter led Booker T. with 68 yards rushing on eight carries and teammate Detrell Wood added 11 carries for 18 yards.

The big play: The Bookers' George Cutler intercepted a fourth-quarter pass by Denbigh's Jason Johnson and returned it 10 yards to set up the Bookers' final scoring drive.

Notable individual stats: BTW-Domonic Perry, 6-16, 51 yards passing, 1 TD rushing.

No. 6 Churchland 28, Nansemond River 3

PORTSMOUTH - The Truckers (2-0) scored the first 21 points and never looked back. Churchland held the Warriors (0-2) to 91 yards total offense.

The big play: With Churchland ahead 6-0 in the second quarter, Matt Allen picked off a pass and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown.

Notable individual stats: C-Chatame Ward 21-99 and 1 TD rushing; NR: Vince Pisani, 31-yard field goal.

Quote: ``The coaches told me to watch the backs coming out of the backfield. When I got it, I knew I would score my first defensive touchdown.'' Allen on his interception.

VIRGINIA BEACH - Quez Smith ran for 180 yards and scored four times and Kevin Miller made two field goals, including a 47-yarder, for the Sun Devils in a Beach District game.

The big play: Smith's 73-yard run on the first play from scrimmage in the second half to give the Sun Devils a 24-0 lead.

Notable individual stats: S: Smith 12-180 rushing, 3 TDs, 1-58 receiving, 1 TD; Matt Carasella 4-8-0 passing, 82 yards, 9-47 rushing

Quote: ``I was frustrated because I fumbled earlier. I knew I had to do something.'' Smith on his 73-yard scoring run.

NORFOLK - The Commodores (2-1) scored 24 unanswered points after falling behind by 7-3 early in the second quarter. Maury roared back behind Bruce King, who rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns.

The big play: King's 52-yard run with 5:48 left in the half sent the Commodores ahead to stay, 9-7.

Notable individual stats: GB: Troy Lee 13-95 and 1 TD rushing; M: Bruce King 20-159 and 2 TDs rushing, Steve Williams 12-126 and 1 TD rushing, Donovan Waefler 6-8 137 yards and 1 TD passing.

Granby 8, Oscar Smith 6

NORFOLK - Tom Reid scored on a one-yard touchdown run in the first quarter for Granby (2-1), which won despite only gaining 75 offensive yards. Oscar Smith (0-2) closed the gap when Travis Gatson scored with about five minutes left, but Granby recovered the onside kick attempt and ran out the clock.

Notable individual stats: OS: Ron Boone, 33 yards rushing. G: Reid, 35 yards rushing.

Hampton 34, Warwick 16

NEWPORT NEWS - Ronald Curry's 54-yard touchdown run ignited a 20-point that broke open a tight game as the Crabbers (3-0) won their 30th straight game. Losing quarterback Michael Vick passed for 295 yards.

The big play: Curry's 54-yard run.

Curry's stats: 11-151 and 2 TDs rushing, 7-16-1 109 yards and 1 TD passing, interception in end zone.

Quote: ``Life's been easier since I decided to go to Virginia. There's less phone calls now.'' Curry.

CHESAPEAKE - The stubborn Gators (0-3, 0-1) had a tie going into the fourth quarter, but the Saints (3-0, 1-0) finally wore them down in a Tidewater Conference game.

The big play: Warren Carroll's two-yard TD on fourth down with 1:24 left in the third quarter.

Notable individual stats: N-SA: Carroll 26-102 and 2 TDs rushing, J.M. Nemish 6-44 rushing; GCA: Lance Wright 14-72 and 1 TD rushing.

Quote: ``On that TD on fourth down, we were able to push Warren (Carroll) over the top.'' Nemish on the big play.
