A committee of citizens has been appointed to help determine specific boundaries of Suffolk's greater downtown area.
Downtown Suffolk historically has been the central business district, including Main and Washington and adjoining streets.
But the city's idea for some time has been to expand the district north on Main Street, toward two already-established shopping centers.
Committee members will work with city staff members and consultants first to determine the specific area the greater downtown will encompass and then to develop and implement specific strategies for the area.
Membership on the committee consists of civic, business, municipal and church leaders.
The members are as follows:
Lydia Duke
Elgin Lowe
Betsy Brothers
G.S. Hobbs
Albert Jones
Gail Pruden
Linda Dolan
Charles Christian
Harold Blythe
G.P. Jackson
