Ernest Gay Williams, 64, of Route 1, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, in his home.

Mr. Williams was born in Gates County. The son of the late George Henry and Mrs. Cornelia Jordan Williams, he was retired from Newport News Shipyard. He was a member and deacon of Middle Swamp Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Spivey Williams; two sons, Ernest Gerald Williams and Wade Eugene Williams, both of Sunbury; two sisters, Mavis W. Brittenham of Gatesville and Grace W. Jones of Claudville, Va.; four grandchildren, Jeremy Lee Williams, Jacqueline Michelle Williams, Jason George Williams and Benjamin Gerald Williams.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Middle Swamp Baptist Church by the Rev. Russell Blanchard and the Rev. Joseph Buck. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, in charge. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home and all other times at the residence.
