Oubey Lanter ``Pop-Pop'' Jefferson, 58, of the 500 block of Centerville Turnpike, departed this life peacefully Friday, Sept. 12, 1997, at his residence.
Mr. Jefferson was born in Pennsylvania County, Va., and was the son of Pauline Carter Jefferson of Penns Grove, N.J., and the late William Andrew Jefferson. He was also predeceased by a brother, Jimmy Jefferson.
Mr. Jefferson had retired from the New York City Housing Police after 25 years of service and from the Army National Guard after 27 years of service. His memberships included New York City Guardians, Grand Council of Guardians, 369th Sergeant's Association, 145th Session of the FBI National Academy, New York University Alumni Association, NAACP (lifetime member), Chesapeake Branch of the NAACP, Southeastern Association of Trailriders, John Jay College Alumni Association, National Black Police Association and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Lily Fleming Jefferson; his two daughters, Sheilla Lavern Franklin and his son-in-law, David, of Las Vegas and Sonya Annette Christmas and his son-in-law, Fred; his son, Keith Howard Jefferson and his daughter-in-law, Toni; his former wife, Annette Jefferson, all of Middletown, N.Y.; two sisters, Joyce Martin and his brother-in-law, Leon, and Louise Reed and his brother-in-law, Reginald; two brothers, Benjamin Jefferson and Kenneth Jefferson, all of Penns Grove, N.J.; and six grandchildren, Keith, Anthony, William, David, Dallas and Imani; and a host of additional loving relatives and friends.
Viewing will begin on Tuesday with the family receiving friends at Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, from 6 to 9 p.m. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
