UNC-TV RENOVATES WUND-TV/2: The University of North Carolina Board of Governors has approved a $7.1 million appropriation for the University of North Carolina Center for Public Television to upgrade WUND-TV, Channel 2.

The project includes replacing the transmitter, tower and antenna, providing special services for the blind and visually impaired, and providing better access to telecourses for students in cooperation with Elizabeth City State University and other area community colleges.

The Center for Public Television's 11-station network produces programs for and about North Carolina through public investment and private support.

HATTERAS

PARK SERVICE HUNT LOTTERY: The National Park Service hunt at Cape Hatteras National Seashore begins Oct. 1 and ends Oct. 4.

To enter the lottery, mail a 3-by-5 card with the hunter's name, address, phone number and preferred hunting dates with a self-addressed stamped envelope. Lottery winners will be notified by return mail. Failure to comply with instructions may result in application disqualification.

Entries will not be accepted after 5 p.m. on Sept. 22, 1997. Only one index card entry per licensed hunter. Mail to: Hunt Lottery, Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Route 1, Box 675, Manteo, N.C. 27954.

The waterfowl hunt season runs from Oct. 20, 1997, to Mar. 10, 1998. Registration procedures will be announced at a later date.

MOREHEAD CITY

STATE TO TAG ABANDONED POTS: The North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries has announced that the Marine Patrol will begin a new crab pot tagging program.

Marine Patrol officers will tag crab pots suspected of being abandoned. Regulations state that crab pots must be fished every 10 days.

The tags are orange-colored and marked NC MARINE PATROL followed by an identification number.
