Ernest Alexander Swain, 91, of the 200 block of Virginia Road, died Sept. 18, 1997, in the Skilled Nursing Facility of Chowan Hospital.
Mr. Swain was a 1927 graduate of U.N.C. He taught school and became the principal of the E.A. Swain Elementary School. He was also a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Mr. Swain was the son of the late Edward Freeman and Jane Phelps Swain, and the husband of Beulah Wilma Council Swain of Edenton.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a sister, Lucy S. Byrd of Warrenton, Va. and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Vickers and a brother, Paul T. Swain.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jack Rivers officiating. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in the Evans Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the St. Paul's Episcopal Church. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
