KATHARINE P. GATLING

Katharine Powell Gatling, 93, of the 100 block of Kilby Court died Sept. 19, 1997.

A native of Suffolk, she was a daughter of the late George Willis and Martha Sarah Gwynn Powell and the widow of Wilfred Commander Gatling Sr. Mrs. Gatling was a member of First Baptist Church, where she had been a very active member all of her life. She was a member of the World War I Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Post Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include her daughter, Joyce G. Ward of Suffolk; her son and daughter-in-law, Wilfred C. and Dorothy C. Gatling Jr. of Suffolk; her sister, Sadie P. Judkins of Martinsville; her grandchildren, Patricia G. Middlebrooks of Midlothian, Texas, the Rev. Wilfred C. Gatling III of Raleigh, N.C., Michelle W. Bunch of Springfield, Walter A. Ward III of Suffolk; her great-grandchildren, Charles and Lauren Middlebrooks, Benjamin and Cameron Gatling, Alissa and Alec Ward and Tyler Bunch.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church by the Revs. Charles W. Thompson and Wilfred C. Gatling III. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends in R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
