MAMIE H. SMITH

Mamie Essie Harrison Smith, 104, of the 2600 block of Belle St., died Sept. 20, 1997, in Portsmouth General Hospital.

Mrs. Smith, born in Courtland, Va., was the daughter of the late Walter and Josephine Massenberg Harrison. She was the widow of George Robert Smith and was preceded in death by son and daughter-in-law, Robert R. and Evelyn T. Smith.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Georgia and James Bryant of New York City and Mackseen and John Chavous of Portsmouth; grandchildren, Lutricia, John and Joseph Chavous of Portsmouth and Dornell Chavous of Alexandria, Va.; 14 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; sister, Eliza Hill; three nieces, including Dorothy Goodman of Portsmouth; and one nephew; several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews; several cousins; and her St. Paul AME Church family.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in St. Paul AME Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Charles L. Harvin. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Viewing will begin today at 4 p.m. in Fisher Funeral Home. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
