MILDRED C. BLACKWELL

Mildred Edith Church ``Boo'' Blackwell, 84, of the 9500 block of 21st Bay St., died Sept. 21, 1997, in a Norfolk hospital.

Mrs. Blackwell was born in Idaville, Ind., and was retired as a secretary from W.R. Grace & Co. She was a charter member of All Saints Episcopal Church. She was a charter member of Professional Secretaries International; 1930 graduate of Maury High School; 1957 charter member of Tidewater Chapter Professional Secretaries International; 1959-1961 treasurer of Virginia Division PSI; 1960 Secretary of the Year, Tidewater Chapter, PSI; in 1962 passed the Certified Professional Secretaries Exam; 1963-64 vice president, Virginia Division, PSI; 1964-66 president, Virginia Division, PSI and served on the Education Committee of the Governor's Commission for the Status of Women in Virginia; 1966-68 served on the International Membership Committee, PSI and also was chairman of PSI, Virginia Division, History Committee; 1968 served as chairman of the PSI Leadership Clinic held in Natural Bridge, Va.

Survivors include her husband, Paul E. Blackwell; a daughter, Adelle Gray Guthrie of Virginia Beach; a son, William Maynard Gray Jr. of Chesapeake; six grandchildren, Chuck Guthrie, Dave Guthrie and Debbie Yates, all of Virginia Beach, Kenny Guthrie of Denver, Colo., Steve Gray of Virginia Beach and Jean Kirste of Virginia Beach; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by the Rev. Richard Yates. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
