DURWOOD O. WRIGHT

Durwood O. Wright, 80, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997, in Chowan Hospital.

A native of Portsmouth, Mr. Wright was the husband of Mrs. Kathleen Rowe Wright with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. He was the son of the late Walter C. and Ellen E. Olmsted Wright.

Mr. Wright was a member of the Edenton Baptist Church, the Unanimity Lodge No. 7, and the Scottish Rites. He was a retired superintendent of heavy construction. Some of his work included building the Elizabeth River Tunnel, the Walt Whitman Bridge, the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and the Albemarle Sound Bridge.

Surviving other than his wife are his three daughters, Brenda Frazier of Virginia Beach, Judy Ivey of Columbia, S.C., Sharon McManus of West Chester, Pa.; a sister, Gladys Presson of Roanoke; two brothers, Wesley L. Wright of Bangor, Maine, Glenn H. Wright of Troutville, Va.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Edna Byrd and Dorothy Ann Connelly; and two brothers, Walter Columbus Wright Jr. and Damon Haley Wright.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Wayne Proctor. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 until 8:30 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
