MELVIN F. WRIGHT SR.

Melvin Forbes Wright Sr., 80, of the 1100 block of Riverside Ave. died at Guardian Care Nursing Home Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997.

Mr. Wright was a native of Pasquotank County, N.C., and attended N.C. State College and Strayer's Business College in Washington, D.C. He was retired from the Pasquotank County Tax Department and was the former owner of the Willis Wright Motor Co. having been an automobile dealer for 40 years. Mr. Wright was a member of Eureka Masonic Lodge No. 317 AF&AM, and the Sudan Temple, a former member of the Kiwanis Club and their board of directors. He had served as an Albemarle Hospital trustee, fire commissioner and county commissioner of Pasquotank County, area chairman for North Carolina Dealers Association, a member of Elizabeth City Chamber of Commerce and their board of directors. He was a member and Life Honorary deacon of Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church.

Mr. Wright was the son of the late Willis Squires and Annie Forbes Wright, and the husband of Edith Everett Wright of the residence. Besides his wife, survivors include a daughter, Ann Wright Harris of Winston Salem, N.C.; a son, Melvin Forbes Wright Jr. and wife, Mary Jo, of Winston Salem; a sister, Annette Wright Moss of Elizabeth City; two brothers, William Carlton Wright of Phoenix, Ariz., and Howland Fearing Wright of St. Augustine, Fla.; three grandchildren, Melanie Harris Michael and husband, Greg, of Wilkesboro, N.C., Roy Clavis Harris and wife, Lisa, of High Point, N.C., and Allison Noel Harris of Winston Salem, N.C.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today in Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Crisp. The family requests memorial gifts to Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church. Twiford's Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
