CONFERENCE TO EXAMINE FUTURE OF LABOR MOVEMENT: The College of William and Mary will hold the 10th Southern Labor Studies conference today through Sunday. More than 100 panelists representing 75 universities and colleges will participate. Sessions will be held at the Fort Magruder Inn and Conference Center in Williamsburg and at William & Mary. NORFOLK

BRYAN TO CHAIR FAMILY SERVICES BOARD: George W. Bryan of Norfolk Financial Corp. was elected chairman by the board of directors of Family Services of Tidewater. He succeeds former chairman R. Craig Baker of Heritage Bank and Trust.

NEW SHOPS AT NORFOLK AIRPORT: The following retail shops have opened at the Norfolk International Airport; The Nook III Gift Shop, an African/Columbian/Indian boutique; The Virginia Company, an outlet providing Virginia products; Petals and Presents, fresh flowers and novelties; The Jewelry Station; Shade Corner, sunglasses; and Magic Pens, novelty pens.

VIRGINIA BEACH

LEE FORMS REAL ESTATE COMPANY: John M. Lee, formerly vice president industrial properties with Goodman Segar Hogan, has formed his own commercial real estate company called John Lee & Associates.

NEWPORT NEWS

FOUR HEAD NEW POMOCO USED CAR CENTER: Henry Ayer III was named general manager of the new Pomoco Used Car Center of Newport News. Ayer also serves as vice president of Pomoco Group Inc., the Hampton-based corporation which also operates six Pomoco new car dealerships in southeastern Virginia. Tony Bertone was named used car manager; Ray Jarvis, assistant sales manager and John Moller Jr., business manager.

VIRGINIA

SIEBE APPLIANCE BUYS COMPETITOR: Richmond-based Siebe Appliance Controls is buying its biggest competitor, Eaton Corp.'s Appliance Control Operations. The $310 million acquisition is subject to regulatory approval in the United States and Europe. Eaton is based in Cleveland, but its appliance control operation headquarters is in Strasbourg, France. The companies will have annual revenues in excess of $800 million. They will have 37 facilities in 13 countries and more than 10,000 employees. Customers include appliance makers like General Electric, Whirlpool, Maytag and Frigidaire/Electrolux.
