NORFOLK PITTS AND FINNEY PROMOTED: Tammac Credit Services, a division of Tammac Corp., promoted Larry Pitts Jr. to vice president of sales and marketing. He was regional sales manager.

NEWPORT NEWS SHIPBUILDING TO FUND REPURCHASE PROGRAM: Newport News Shipbuilding said it intends to fund a portion of its employee compensation plan obligations with up to $10 million of shares of its common stock. This stock will be purchased by the company through open-market and privately negotiated transactions. The company expects that purchases of additional shares will be authorized for this purpose.

ROANOKE GAS ELECTS OFFICERS: Roanoke Gas Co. has elected John B. Williamson III president/CEO to succeed Frank Farmer, who will retire in February. Williamson, 42, is vice president-rates and finance and chief financial officer. The board elected Arthur L. Pendleton, 46, vice president-operations, as executive vice president/chief operating officer.
JAMES RIVER SPLITS STOCK: The board of directors of James River Bankshares Inc. on Thursday declared a three-for-two stock split in the form of a stock dividend on the company's common stock. Shareholders of record on Oct. 10, 1997, will receive one additional share of James River Bankshares common stock for every two shares owned on the record date. The dividend shares will be delivered Nov. 7, 1997. Fractional shares will be paid in cash. This is James River Bankshares' first stock dividend.

intern architects. Penley was an intern architect with Riddick & Associates in Norfolk; Parrish was an intern architect with Martin & Martin Architecture in Virginia Beach.
METRO INFORMATION SERVICES TO OPEN IN MEMPHIS: Metro, which does information technology consulting and software development, has 28 offices throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Memphis, a new office, is the sixth Metro property added this year. The company this year began trading its stock publicly. Since then it has opened offices in Denver; St. Louis, Mo.; and Austin, Texas, and acquired companies in Columbia, S.C., and Kansas City, Mo.
