Kudos for covering new Dick Price stadium
As a longtime follower of Norfolk State's athletic teams, I have often voiced dissatisfaction with The Virginian-Pilot's coverage of NSU's sports. Thus, after the unprecedented coverage of the opening of the William ``Dick'' Price stadium, I feel a special obligation to commend The Pilot's writers and editors for the splendid and thorough job they did evaluating the university's move to Division I, and familiarizing our fans with the new stadium and the parking arrangements.
As the novelty of the new stadium wears off, I hope that The Pilot will continue to report the achievements of all of our fine athletic teams.

MONARCHY
If Charles steps
aside, sons lose, too
Those people who want Prince Charles to step aside so that his and Diana's son, Prince William, can become the next king of England should check the line of succession to the throne.
Upon the death of a monarch, the crown passes to the first-born son. If there is no son, it passes to the first daughter. If the oldest son steps aside before the monarch dies, aren't his children out, also?
Should Charles step aside now, his brother Andrew is next in line. Should his divorce from Fergie bar his succession, his younger brother Edward could inherit the throne.
The solution appears to be for Charles to wait until his mother dies, become king and then step aside.

NORFOLK
Downtown parking
a turnoff for 37 years
Concerning your Sept. 20 Business News article, ``Plan: Give car poolers best downtown parking'':
I would add a postscript to attorney Jon P. Eichler's statement that he has clients who can't get to his office on Main Street.
In July 1960, when I closed on our new home in Lakeview Shores, Princess Anne County, at an attorney's office on Main Street, I had to leave the proceedings twice to feed the parking meter. Since that date 37 years ago, I have been to that area perhaps five times - to conventions and waterfront activities. Any change in that situation has been only to make it more difficult to get to any location in downtown Norfolk.
City Council and Mr. Oliver: Ask yourselves why we ``out-of-towners'' don't participate in more downtown activities.
