Vincent James Amorese, 80, died Sept. 26, 1997, at his home after a courageous fight with cancer.
He was born June 16, 1917, in New York, N.Y. He served in the National Guard in 1935 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1937 serving his country during World War II and the Korean War. He retired as a chief gunner's mate in 1960.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Marjorie Amorese; six children, Lloyd and Richard Amorese of Knotts Island, N.C., Arthur, Michael and Janice Amorese of Virginia Beach and Cindy Core of Goldsboro, N.C.; his sister, Rita Frewin of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Altmeyer Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Rosewood Memorial Park with full military honors. Cmdr. Bennie L. Kingwood, CHC, U.S. Navy, retired, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2730 Ellsmere Ave., Norfolk, Va. 23513.
