NEWSPAPER APPOINTS NEW AD MANAGER: The Virginian-Pilot appointed Chris Cook Chesapeake/Portsmouth advertising manger. Cook joined The Pilot in 1995 and most recently was field sales manager in Virginia Beach.

HEMENWAY TO MANAGE NEW FUNERAL HOME: Lawrence Hemenway Jr. was named manager of the new Woodlawn Funeral Home and Crematory adjoining the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Hemenway is retired from the Norfolk Police Department. He has worked in the funeral service for 21 years.

NAUTICUS TO HOST CRUISE SHIP TODAY: The cruise ship Regal Empress will sail on a ``cruise to nowhere'' from Nauticus in downtown Norfolk today. About 1,000 people are booked aboard the 1,180-passenger liner for the overnight cruise, organized by Vann Travel of Virginia Beach. The 612-foot ship will sail at 4 p.m., returning at 8 a.m. Sunday. Robert Vann of Vann Travel wants to book two similar cruises from Nauticus in 1998. Regal Empress is operated by St. Petersburg, Fla.-based Regal Cruises. VIRGINIA BEACH
