We can balance the critical investments we need to make in education, public safety, transportation and the environment with targeted tax relief that will make a difference in the lives of seniors, growing businesses and working families.
To help Virginia businesses reinvest earnings and keep a well-trained work force, I helped enact a worker retraining tax credit for businesses to train employees and I led efforts to cut the business licensing tax.
As governor, I will cut taxes and still make critical investments for better schools, safer and cleaner communities. I will eliminate the corporate income tax on small businesses and eliminate the tax on nonprescription drugs, making it easier for families to buy aspirin, diapers and cough medicine. Next year, I will eliminate the personal property tax on cars and trucks for the average taxpaying individual and family, giving the average family $250 - right away - to cover the tax.
How we spend Virginians' hard-earned tax dollars is vital to our future. Resources must be used wisely and spending must be accountable to taxpayers. As a father, I want to invest for my children and yours. As a businessman, I keep an eye on the bottom line by balancing the books, making payroll and planning for the future. As a public servant, I know we can build the best Virginia by making our schools the best in the country, by being tough on crime and smart with money we use to prevent crime, and by creating the strongest climate to grow businesses and create jobs.
