NSU ALUMNI ASSOCIATION BANQUET TO FUND SCHOLARSHIPS FIVE SUFFOLK COMMUNITY AND CIVIC LEADERS WILL BE HONORED AT THE OCT. 10 FUND-RAISER.

The Suffolk Chapter of Norfolk State University Alumni Association will host a Scholarship Fund-raising Dinner Oct. 10 at the National Guard Armory.

A social hour will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the dinner at 7 p.m.

The event will benefit a scholarship fund for Suffolk high school students who will attend Norfolk State University.

Five community/civic leaders will be honored:

Charles Christian has been an educator in the Suffolk Public Schools for 17 years and an assistant professor and counselor at Norfolk State for more than 20 years.

Spencer Mayfield Jr. has been an educator and athletic coach in the Suffolk Public Schools for over 30 years.

Mary V. Richardson is a community activist and has served the Pughsville Civic League for over 20 years.

Lorraine Skeeter is an educator and community activist, who has served as director, teacher, and trainer for the Jordan Kindergarten and Day Care Center. She is a member of the Suffolk City School Board.

Evelyn Wall is a community activist and writer for the Suffolk News-Herald.

The cost of tickets is $25 per person.
