CITY COUNCIL ACTIONS - CHESAPEAKE

The Chesapeake City Council met Tuesday and took the following actions, based on a report from the Office of the City Clerk. NOTE: At the Sept. 9 council meeting, Council continued boards and commissions appointments to the Oct. 14 council meeting. Propoal

Request by Chesapeake Public Schools for an appropriation of $20,734,600 in Federal and State Categorical funds. Approved, 7-0 with Butt and Newman excused.

Request by Department of Parks, Recreation and Building Maintenance/Fine Arts Commission for appropriation of $4,500 of local government challenge grant funds allocated by the Virginia Commission for the Arts/National Endowment for the Arts. Approved, 7-0 with Butt and Newman excused.

Consideration of issuance of certificates of public convenience and necessity for Yellow Cab of Portsmouth/Chesapeake/Suffolk and Orange Cab. Approved, 6-1. Krasnoff voted no. Butt and Newman excused.

Consideration of issuance of certificates of public convenience and necessity for Blue and White Taxi. Approved, 7-0 with Butt and Newman excused.

A resolution requesting the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Transportation, program a project for the improvement of Military Highway from Allison Drive to the city line of Virginia Beach. Approved, 7-0 with Butt and Newman excused.

A resolution requesting the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Transportation, program a project for the improvement of the Tyre Neck Road crossing of Sterns Creek at the Chesapeake/Portsmouth city line. Approved, 7-0 with Butt and Newman excused.

A resolution requesting the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Transportation, program a project for the improvement of the intersections of Greenbrier Parkway and Eden Way north, and Greenbrier Parkway and Greenbrier Mall access road. Approved, 7-0 with Butt and Newman excused.

A resolution adopting the emergency operations plan for the city of Chesapeake. Approved 7-0 with Butt and Newman excused.

Request for approval of the design features for the Cedar Road IV and V Project/1994 Bond Referendum. Approved, 7-0 with Butt and Newman excused.

A resolution authorizing the city manager to advise the Army Corps of Engineers of the city's willingness to enter into a project cooperation agreement for the Virginia Highway Route 168 Bridge Replacement Project at Great Bridge. Approved, 7-0 with Butt and Newman excused.

A resolution authorizing the city manager and city clerk to execute a conservation easement to Conservation Inc. for the conveyance of 45.53 acres in the Butts Road Borough. Voted 7-0 to continued to Oct. 28 council meeting. Butt and Newman were excused.

An ordinance to create the Chesapeake Commission for the Prevention of AIDS. Approved, 7-0 with Butt and Newman excused.

Designation of voting and alternate voting delegates - Annual Congress of Cities meeting. Voted, 7-0 to selected Butt to be the voting member and Newman the alternate voting delegate. Approved, 7-0 with Butt and Newman excused.

Request by Sharon Zetts for a use permit for manicure salon in residence at 4001 Santa Maria Drive. Approved with stipulations, 7-0. Butt and Newman excused.
