Mary Margaret Solana, 95, of the 1200 block of Kay Ave. departed this life to go to her Heavenly Home Sept. 26, 1997. She was born in Greenville, Tenn., and was the widow of John Leo Solana.
She was a member of Portlock United Methodist Church, Chesapeake, and a former member of the First Senior Citizens Club and the Niners Senior Citizens Club, both of Chesapeake. She was retired from Sealtest Dairies where she achieved honors as an accomplished artist in creating frozen ice cream designs. She excelled in the art of cake decorating and created a birthday cake for President Harry S. Truman. She also proved her artistic ability in painting with oils on canvas.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Katie Carlile of Chesapeake; a sister, Iona Smith of Florida; a brother, Charles Teague of Florida; three grandchildren, Ray Carlile, Donnie Carlile, both of Chesapeake, Donna Lewis of Newport News; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of loved ones and friends of Sentara Nursing Center, Chesapeake. Grandmama, you have always been an inspiration for us and we will miss you so much.
A graveside funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Ellen Comstock. The family will be at the Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, from 4 to 5 p.m. today and at other times at 1232 Kay Ave., Chesapeake. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
