JOHN J. JOHNSON

John Jones Johnson, 86, of the 3300 block of Galberry Road, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997 in Portsmouth.

A native of Norfolk County, he was a member of Deep Creek United Methodist Church and had retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a shipfitter.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Carey Johnson; a daughter, Linda Johnson Bess and husband, Dale, of Hampton; a son, John Wayne Johnson of Chesapeake; two sisters, Ann M. Patterson and Mary Patterson, both of Chesapeake; five brothers, Page, Billy, Brooks, Frederick and Richard Johnson, all of Chesapeake; half brothers and half sisters, including Thomas H. Johnson; and a grandchild, Virginia Alice ``Jennie'' Bess. He was predeceased by three brothers, Jimmy, Allen and Douglas and two sisters, Jean Wells and Lucy Robol.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Deep Creek United Methodist Church by the Rev. Bradford L. Phillips. Burial will be in the Carey Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Memorials may be made to the building funds of Deep Creek United Methodist Church or Deep Creek Baptist Church. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
