WALTER JERNIGAN PORTSMOUTH

Jernigan, a long-time member at Elizabeth Manor, has been battling an illness that has kept him off the links of late. His buddies - one of which nominated him for Golfer of the Week - hope to have him back soon.

Age: 56

Occupation: Nationwide Insurance Agent

Handicap: 20

Favorite area course: Elizabeth Manor

Lowest score: 84 at Elizabeth Manor

Clubs: Cobra irons; Big Bertha woods; Maxfli putter.

Shot I dread the most: A long shot over the water.

My dream foursome: Greg Norman, Ernie Els, Tiger Woods and me.

Biggest golf gripe: Slow play.

Most memorable shot: Two years ago at Elizabeth Manor, on the par 4 fourth hole, I chipped in for par.

Funniest thing I ever saw on the course: A good friend I was playing with at Elizabeth Manor stepped up to the No. 2 blue tee which was playing 306 yards. His tee shot hit the lady's tee marker 24 yards in front of us, bounced backward, making all of us on the tee scramble, leaving him a second shot of about 360 yards. ILLUSTRATION: Color photo
