Carl Shawn Turner, 21, of the 700 block of South St., died Sept. 28, 1997, atthe 100 block of Halifax St., Suffolk.
He was born in Portsmouth and was a former employee of Old Country Buffet. He was a member of Philadelphia Church of Christ Disciples, Chesapeake. He was a former recreation football and basketball player. He formerly played the bass drums for the Woodrow Wilson High School band.
Survivors include two daughters, Jameca Davis of Portsmouth, Shanette Hunt of Suffolk; two sons, Jamonta Davis, Jabari Davis, both of Portsmouth; his parents, Judy Nixon and Carl Singleton, both of Portsmouth; a sister, Kimberly Turner of Virginia Beach; a brother, Kelsey Turner of Portsmouth; maternal grandmother, Lois Nixon of New York City; paternal grandparents, Margaret and Willie Singleton of Columbus, Ohio; a host of aunts, uncles; a niece, Trinidy Blount; cousins, in-laws and friends including two special friends, Sonya Hunt and Tasha Davis.
A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Philadelphia Church of Christ Disciples, Chesapeake, by Bishop J.T. Farrow. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon Friday. The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday. The body will be taken to the church at noon Saturday.
