Sallie Alston, 72, of the 2100 block of Effingham St., died Sept. 29, 1997, in Maryview Medical Center.
Born in Warren County, N.C., she was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Portsmouth, the No. 2 Usher Board, Willing Workers, Leah Tent No. 16 and Independent Order of Tents.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Alston; two daughters, Betty Young of Long Island, N.Y., Diane Alston of Portsmouth; three sons, Clyde Alston of Portsmouth, Vincent Alston of Atlanta, Joe W. Alston of Irvington, N.J.; three sisters, Eula S. Preuitt, Geraldine S. Coleman, both of Portsmouth, Arldyne S. Lindsey of Long Island; three grandchildren; two aunts, Maggie S. Miller of Alexandria, Va., Hula Robinson of Baltimore, Md.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. W.S. Hampton. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon Friday. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Saturday. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
