JOSEPH JORDAN

Joseph Jordan, 59, departed this life Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, at Sentara Hampton General Hospital.

A native of Ahoskie, N.C., he was employed at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk.

He is survived by his wife, Claudia S. Jordan of Hampton; his mother, Hattie Jordan of Ahoskie, N.C.; two sons, Joseph Jordan II of Richmond and Carlton Baskett of Newport News; six daughters, Emily Williams, Abigail Yarabough, Toneisha Jordan and Elaine Holley, all of Hampton, and Sherry Jordan-Taylor and Anita Jordan-Fobbs, both of Newport News; a stepdaughter, Dawn Hinnant of Portsmouth; three brothers, George Jordan of Newport News, Alton Jenkins of Ahoskie, N.C., and Jacob Jenkins of Calif.; two sisters, Marion Walker of Petersburg and Edna Williams of New York; 19 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in First Calvary Baptist Church, Norfolk, with Rev. J.L. White Sr., officiating. Interment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will begin at 1 p.m. today in Cooke Brothers Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. and assemble at the residence by 8:45 a.m. Saturday.
