Edwin Worrell ``Ned'' Evans Jr., 74, of Route 1, died Oct. 1, 1997, in his home.
Born in Hertford County, he was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and a farmer. He was a member of Barnes United Methodist Church, Newsoms, Va., an Army veteran of World War II and president of the Rural Mail Carriers Association.
Survivors include his daughter, Cherry Gay Evans of Greenville, N.C.; three sons, Edwin W. Evans III of Como, Walter Worrell Evans of Morganton, N.C., and William Brown Evans of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, George W. Evans of Como; grandchildren, Michelle Rena Evans of Ahoskie, N.C., and Edwin W. Evans IV of Como.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Worrell-Evans Family Cemetery, Route 1, Como, by the Rev. Allan Mizelle. The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and at other times at the home of Edwin W. Evans III, Route 1, Como.
