Basie Edward White Jr. 85, passed away Oct. 3, 1997, in DePaul Medical Center.
Mr. White was born Sept. 7, 1912, in Norfolk, son of the late Basie E. Sr. and Irene Sears White. He was a devoted Christian and a longtime member of Spurgeon Memorial Baptist Church. He was a member of Elizabeth Lodge No. 34 A.F.&A.M. and the Khedive Temple. He was a retired supervisor from the Naval Air Station and was an antique car hobbyist. His wife, Nettie P. White, preceded him in death Aug. 1. 1997.
Survivors include his sister, Marilyn Evans and her husband, Walter, of Norfolk; two brothers, Raymond S. White and his wife, Jean, of Virginia Beach, and Warren P. White and his wife, Betty, of Norfolk.
Friends may visit at noon until 9 p.m. today in Altmeyer Funeral Home, Virginia Beach. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Dr. Paul Lawson.
