EDWARD H. BRINKLEY JR.

Edward H. Brinkley Jr., 70, of the 200 block of Highland Ave., died Oct. 3, 1997, in Obici Hospital.

Born in Nansemond County, Mr. Brinkley retired in 1986 from maintenance after 20 years with General Electric. He was the widower of Dorothy Courtney Brinkley and the son of the late Addie Estelle Jones and Edward Hurley Brinkley Sr. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Suffolk, and Masonic Lodge No. 30.

Survivors include daughter Patricia B. Sawyer and son-in-law Raymond E. Sawyer of Mechanicsville, Va.; two grandsons, Cpl. Keith Sawyer, U.S.M.C., of Camp Pendleton, Calif., and Mark Sawyer of Mechanicsville; three sisters, Emma B. Glover of Franklin and Addie Marie Brinkley and Virginia B. Outlaw, both of Suffolk; a brother, Arthur Woodrow Brinkley of Littleton, N.C.; and a dear friend, Sue Mitchell of Suffolk.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. Charles W. Thompson. Burial will be in Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends today from 3 to 4 p.m. in the funeral home and other times at the residence, 220 Highland Ave. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
