HARDING A. SILVESTRE

Harding Almazan Silvestre, 73, of the 1000 block of St. Julian Drive, died Oct. 3, 1997, in his home.

Mr. Silvestre, a native of San Narciso, Zambales, Philippine Islands, was retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service and later served on the NOAA ship Mt. Mitchell. He also worked for many years as a cook at the Sunset Manor Restaurant and the Brentwood Restaurant. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, V.F.W. Post 993 and Fleet Reserve Branch 40.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Marie U. Silvestre; three daughters, Angela Anderson of Fredericksburg, Va., Linda V. Renigar and her husband, Todd, of Portsmouth, Sandra M. Pearce and her husband, Patrick, of Chesapeake; a son, Robert Joseph Greaux and his wife, Linda, of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Virginia Edora of San Diego; a brother, Patring Silvestre of the Philippines; nine grandchildren, Dana Weatherly, Adam Anderson, Alana Anderson, David Weatherly, Christopher Pearce, Kelsey Pearce, Kaitlyn Renigar, Robert Greaux Jr., and Stephanie Greaux; and a close family friend, Emily Nix of Chesapeake.

Known affectionately to his family as ``Paisan,'' he was an avid gardner who enjoyed growing roses, tulips and gladioluses. A cook by trade, he also leaves our memory to savor the bouquet of his kitchen. A benevolent, unassuming man, ``Paisan'' quietly guided his family with his inherent fortitude and humility. Through the prism of our tears, we celebrate the spectrum of his earthly life. We love you, ``Paisan''.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Jay Wagner. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
