Emmit Gavin Barrett, 77, of the 37000 block of Seacock Chapel Road, died Oct. 4, 1997, in Obici Hospital.
Born in Isle of Wight, he was a retired salesperson for Cogsdale Implement Co. and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church, where he was an honorary deacon. Mr. Barrett was a former member of Zuni Ruritan Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Bowden Barrett; a daughter, Denise B. Murray and son-in-law, Woody Murray, of Nashville, Tenn.; a son, Keith G. Barrett and daughter-in-law, Jean W. Barrett, of Zuni; and grandchildren, Brad and Dana Barrett, and Kyle and Lindsay Murray. He was predeceased by his parents, Liza Jane Bryant and Mills Thomas Barrett; six brothers and seven sisters.
A funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Tucker Swamp Baptist Church, Zuni, by the Revs. Steve Bradshaw, James Dunn and A.C. Bryant. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today in the residence, and requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ivor Rescue Squad or Missions Funds of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church.
