A Hampton man's desire to own a sports car may have led to murder, police said.
James E. Gatling Jr., an unemployed 22-year-old, was arrested Thursday night in the fatal shooting of mechanic Harry E. Kyzer Jr.
Gatling ``was in the process of negotiating the purchase of a 1984 Porsche'' from Kyzer, who was found shot in the head in his home the night of Sept. 24, said Lt. Lynn Griffin, commander of the Department's Violent Crimes Unit.
The 35-year-old Kyzer, an auto and diesel mechanic for a NASA Langley subcontractor, remained on life support for three days. He was buried Wednesday.
Gatling has been charged with murder, robbery, abduction with the intent to extort, and three counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. KEYWORDS: MURDER
