EDITOR'S NOTE: A story about the Outer Banks Parade of Homes ran last Sunday on the Home & Garden section front and, because of an editing error, included incorrect dates for the event. We have since published the correct information in several sections of the newspaper and are repeating it again here for those who may want to go.
FIFTEEN NEW HOMES, showcasing the variety of Outer Banks' architecture and interiors, will be open Thursday through next Sunday for the Outer Banks Home Builders Association 1997 Parade of Homes.
The builders association also will present Home Expo '97, a vendors' display for homeowners from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Outer Banks Mall.
The fifth annual Parade of Homes showcases the work of 13 builders and 14 neighborhoods, from Corolla to Manteo.
Most of the homes were designed as vacation homes; a couple will be used second homes; some are constructed as year-round residences; and a few were built as model homes.
The homes range from a 1,350-square-foot home selling for $119,800 in Manteo to a 7,200-square-foot home selling for $1.95 million in Corolla.
Most of this year's houses pay homage to traditional Nags Head design, but some also exhibit exceptional craftsmanship and uncommon detailing.
The tour's highlights this year will come primarily inside, where interiors shine with a variety of styles and decors, from traditional beach to classic Roman-Greco villas.
In a community where model homes are scarce, the Outer Banks Home Builders Association Parade of Homes offers an opportunity to peek and pry without obligation.
It's a chance to learn a few things about beach construction and see a few neighborhoods - and a few fantastic views - you've never seen before. ILLUSTRATION: Graphic
