Retired Army Staff Sgt. Lawrence P. Brown Sr., 76, died Oct. 5, 1997, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Born in Beckley, W.Va., he was with the U.S. Army for 22 years and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was also retired as a fire captain after 16 years with the civil service and after 12 years with the Virginia Beach School Board.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria A. Brown; two daughters, Debra Aldridge and Tammy Henderson, both of Virginia Beach; a son, Lawrence P. Brown Jr. of Virginia Beach; seven sisters, Elizabeth Annalee Bailey, Virginia Ruth Lilly and Charlotte Darleen Poole, all of Beckley, W.Va., Mary Alice Barnes of Brunswick, Ohio, Wilda May Zimmerman of Concord, Va., Wanda Gay Lively of Concord, Vivian Pearl Rubin of Corpus Christi, Texas; three brothers, Robert Jack Brown of Midway, W.Va., William Carl Brown of Beckley, W.Va., James Chester Brown of Desoto, Texas; four grandchildren, Sylvia Renee Smith, Travis Brown, Cassandra Renee Holcomb and Samantha Joell Brown.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. James Rubin. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
