HAMPTON ROADS
COAL SHIPMENTS REBOUND IN AUGUST AFTER TWO WEAK MONTHS: After falling off 17.2 percent in July and 4.6 percent in June, shipments of coal through the port of Hampton Roads rebounded in August, increasing 14 percent. August brought this year's coal shipments back even with shipments through the port last year. The Hampton Roads Maritime Association said the region's three terminals loaded 4.97 million tons of coal in August, up from 4.36 million tons last August. Through this August, the port has shipped 35.1 million tons of coal. Norfolk Southern's Pier 6 coal terminal, the region's largest, accounted for all of August's growth, loading 3 million tons in August, up from 2.2 million tons last August.
