Dorothy R. Sumner, 75, of the 4000 block of Weyanoke Drive, wife of the late Joseph L. ``Sparky'' Sumner Sr., died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1997, in a Portsmouth hospital.
A native of Portsmouth, she was a dedicated member and volunteer worker of the Portsmouth Senior Citizens.
Survivors include a son, Joseph L. Sumner Jr. of Chesapeake; three daughters, Linda Harrison and husband, John, of Portsmouth, Barbara Hightower and husband, Berry, of Chesapeake, and Georgie Creecy and husband, Paul, of Portsmouth; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and two very special friends, Margaret Smith and Frances Edwards.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Mel Kunkle. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
