Rita Delores Lange Bowers of the 900 block of Kaster Arch died Oct. 9, 1997.
Mrs. Bowers was born in Baltimore, Md., the daughter of the late Francis X. Lange and the late Delores Marinello Lange. Mrs. Bowers worked early in her marriage as a banking bookkeeper, but she will be most remembered for her many volunteer activities in the community. Mrs. Bowers served as den mother of the Cub Scouts, as a tutor at Pembroke Meadows Elementary School, where she was named Volunteer of the Year, as chairperson of the Reflections Contests, and in a variety of offices on PTA Boards at all educational levels. Mrs. Bowers was a member of Old Donation Episcopal Church, where she was, at various times, president of ECW, chairperson of St. Margaret's Circle, of the annual Oyster Roast and Bazaar, and Old Donation Episcopal Day School. She was a gifted artist whose works were favorites of the Christmas Room at the bazaar. Mrs. Bowers was also an enthusiastic supporter for the arts, especially at the Virginia Youth Symphony and the Governor's School for the Arts. She was a remarkable woman who will be sorely missed.
Mrs. Bowers was the cherished wife of Robert Noel Bowers. She is survived by her husband and their two sons, CTM1 David Noel Bowers, U.S. Navy, and his wife, Janet, and their daughter, Courtney, of Alexandria, and Christopher Anthony Bowers, a student of Chicago School of Music.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Old Donation Episcopal Church by the Rev. Tom Holliday, the Rev. Joy Walton and the Rev. Don Gross. The family will receive friends at a reception in the parish hall following the service. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research.
