Earl Lee Fitzwater Sr., 76, of the 100 block of Spiers Road, died Oct. 9, 1997, in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin, Va.
Born in Baltimore, Md., he was a member of Buckhorn Baptist Church, Como, and its church choir. He retired from the sample room of Union Camp Inc., Franklin. He was a Master Mason of American George Masonic No. 17, Murfreesboro, and a member of N.C. Scottish Rites. Mr. Fitzwater was mayor of Como from 1969 to 1980. He served on the Como Town Council for many years; was a charter member of the Como Fire Department and Rescue Squad and volunteer at East Pavilion, Franklin.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Brett Fitzwater; a foster daughter, Jane Brett Fahey of Vienna, Va.; a son, Lee Fitzwater and wife, Joan, of Como; a grandson, Brandon Fitzwater of Como; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Buckhorn Baptist Church, Como, by the Rev. Larry Allen. Burial with Masonic Rites, will be in the church cemetery. Garrett Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, is handling arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
