WENNBERG APPOINTED MANAGER OF COMMERCIAL MARKETING AT NEWPORT NEWS SHIPBUILDING: Peder K. Wennberg Jr. was named manager of commercial marketing at Newport News Shipbuilding. He will be responsible for marketing and sales activities associated with commercial new ship construction and conversion jobs. He was most recently an area sales manager for New Orleans-based Ulstein USA, which markets medium-speed engines, propellers, winches, steering gear and deck machinery.

COX COMMUNICATIONS RECEIVES AWARDS: ``Cablevision'' magazine named Cox Communications the recipient of its 1997 Cablevision/Bill Daniels Operator of the Year Award. The award recognizes a cable company's quality of management, commitment to customer relations and community service and its financial and operational acumen. Also, the Sales & Marketing Executives International awarded Cox the Customer Service Excellence Award in recognition of outstanding consistency in demonstrating professionalism in sales, marketing and customer service.
WILLIAMSBURG
BEATTY APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF 2007 CELEBRATION: Norman G. Beatty of Williamsburg, a government and public relations consultant and former Colonial Williamsburg community and government relations vice president, was named director of the 2007 Celebration for the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation. He will coordinate state, national and international plans to commemorate the approaching 400th anniversary of the founding of America's first permanent English colony at Jamestown and of the commonwealth of Virginia. Beatty will begin on Nov. 26.
WILLIAMSBURG INN HONORED: The Williamsburg Inn has been rated as one of the nation's best meeting facilities by readers of ``Meetings and Conventions'' magazine and was also ranked among North America's 50 top resorts by readers of ``Conde Nast Traveler'' magazine. The inn received ``Meetings and Conventions'' magazine's Gold Key Award for excellence in providing fine service and quality for meetings. Winners will be listed in a Gold Key Awards supplement, published with the November issue of ``Meetings and Conventions.''

RICHMOND DEVELOPER WINS AWARD: Jeffrey F. Williams III, a Richmond real estate developer, was presented Thursday with the Hunter Hogan Award of Excellence. Named after the spirited and outspoken Virginia Beach developer, the award is presented annually to a person in the commercial real estate industry who exemplifies high standards and ``professional excellence.'' Williams, chairman of Harrison & Bates Inc. in Richmond, has developed more than 1.5 million square feet of commercial real estate in central Virginia.
