LANDMARK FORMS LEISURE, TRAVEL BOOK BUSINESS

Landmark Communications has formed Landmark Guidebooks Inc., an outdoor recreation and travel guide book business.

The new division includes Falcon Publishing Co., a Montana-based guidebook company acquired Oct. 1, and Insiders' Publishing Inc. of Manteo, N.C., which was acquired last April.

Landmark vice president Debbie Monroe was named president of Landmark Guidebooks, which will be headquartered in Norfolk.

Falcon, located in Helena, Mont., publishes and distributes 500 national and regional titles related to outdoor recreation. Among its titles are ``Mountain Biking Utah,'' ``Exploring Hawaii Parklands'' and ``Paddling Colorado.''

While the terms of the deal were not disclosed, Landmark will retain Falcon's 48 employees and continue to produce and distribute its titles from Helena. Falcon publisher and co-founder Bill Schneider will remain as publisher.

Insiders' Publishing produces 45 U.S. travel books, a relocation guide and a golf travel guide.

``We believe that each publisher brings expertise and resources which will enhance the development of the other,'' Monroe said.

Norfolk-based Landmark Communications is a privately held communications company whose interests include The Virginian-Pilot, The Weather Channel, TV stations in Nashville and Las Vegas, and specialty publications. KEYWORDS: LANDMARK COMMUNICATIONS INC.
