John Ludwig Christiansen, 83, of the Pinewood Inn died Oct. 9, 1997, in his residence.
A native of Port Washington Long Island, N.Y., Mr. Christiansen had retired from the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer after 31 years of service. He had also retired from the civil service after nine years.
Mr. Christiansen was preceded in death by his mother, father and brother, Augusta Peterson Christiansen, Christian Olaf Christiansen and Christian August Christiansen and his wife, Mathilda Lubbers Christiansen.
Mr. Christiansen attended Christ The King Catholic Church in Norfolk and was a member of Fleet Reserve, Branch (NU)5. He was Episcopalian and will always be remembered for his love for people and animals.
Survivors include a daughter, Jeanne Marie Macdonald of Virginia Beach, and a son, John L. Christiansen Jr. of Norfolk.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at Christ the King Catholic Church by the Rev. Brian Rafferty. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. A Christian wake service will be held Sunday at 6 p.m. in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to S.P.C.A. of Norfolk, 916 Ballentine Blvd., Norfolk, Va. 23504; F.R.O.T., 354 King Christian Circle, Virginia Beach, Va. 23462 or a charity of choice.
