HOWARD E. SIMMONS JR.

Howard Earl ``Eel'' Simmons Jr., 47, of the 200 block of Sierra Drive died Thursday, Oct. 9, 1997, in a local hospital.

Mr. Simmons was the son of Howard E. Sr. and Joyce Thomas Simmons of Chesapeake. He was employed by the civil service as a maintenance manager in the Public Works Department of NOB. He was a member of Great Bridge Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and the director of the Senior High Department. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He is also survived by his wife, Mary Diane Simmons; his daughter, Caroline Joy Simmons; and his son, Howard E. Simmons III, all of Chesapeake; and his sister, Karen Hamer; his niece, Kristal; and his nephew, Kane, of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Great Bridge Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles L. Moseley. Burial will be private in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. There will be no visiting or viewing, but the family will receive friends at their residence. Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, is in charge. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
